Junior Regatta Details

This is a fun regatta for junior sailors of all abilities. It's a great chance to meet other sailors from different clubs around the region that are just like you and have some fun. There are spot prizes for all sailors and a great burger and a soda for lunch included in the registration fee. You must be under 18 on the day of the regatta to sail.

You can choose from the classes below or speak to the friendly team at registration if you are unsure. You are not locked in to a choice of fleet, you can change your mind at any stage.

  • Optimist Rainbow Fleet: For sailors who are in or have just finished a learn to sail course or who are just starting out. We'll run fun and supported sailing on your own shorter separate course close to the shore with lots of support from patrol boats to help you get around and have a good time. The emphasis is on fun. Choose this fleet if you are starting out sailing and are not sure that you can get around a triangle club race course.
  • Optimist Green Fleet: For sailors who are confident they can get around a triangle race course but are still very much learning. This may be your first or second regatta. The emphasis is on fun, meeting other sailors like you, experience with regattas and starting to think about how to sail faster.
  • Optimist Open Fleet: For sailors who are thinking about how to sail fast and enjoy competing against others in an organised race format. You may be interested in what place you finished and what your overall regatta score is. It's still not scary at this regatta. Many sailors who have sailed a Green or White fleet at other regattas find they enjoy the challenge of "stepping up" to the open fleet at the Junior regatta.
  • O'pen Skiff Fleet (and any P class sailors)
  • Starling Fleet
  • ILCA (Laser) Fleet: We will race all rigs (ILCA 4, ILCA 6/Radial and ILCA 7/Standard) in one fleet. Depending on numbers, we may combine results into one group or have separate racing groups for each rig.
  • Doublehanded Fleet: Usually RS Feva, Sunburst or 420 classes. We are happy to accommodate other doublehanded classes
  • Other: Bring along your boat and we'll fit you in somewhere so you can have a good regatta.

If you don't have a boat, MYC have a limited number of Club Optimists and RS Fevas you can charter for $30 or $50 respectively, please ask if one is available.

Please register using the form below or register on the day, it's the same price ($30 for most sailors or $40 for a two-handed boat) but it's easier for us if you register ahead of time. If you don't know which boat you are using or what your sail number will be, just leave these fields blank.

Registration on the day is at Muritai Yacht Club from 8:30 to 9:15. There are five races planned, three back to back in the morning and two after lunch. Courses are reasonably short so that three races in a row is do-able. The Opti Rainbow fleet may do fewer races depending on conditions but in 2025, they completed all 5 races.

Additional lunch meals are available to purchase so Mum and Dad don't go hungry.

No races will start after 4 pm and we should be done racing, derigging and prizegiving well before 6pm.
