Muritai Yacht Club

commodore

Welcome from Commodore Pete Van Ryn

This is the website for the Muritai Yacht Club. We are a family oriented sailing club in Eastbourne, on the eastern side of Wellington Harbour, New Zealand. We run regular round-the-bouys racing for all centre-board sailing classes on Saturdays at 2 pm from mid-September to late April.

MYC Annual Prize-giving - Saturday 5 May

The Muritai Yacht Club annual prize giving night is on this Saturday (5th May). The format will be as follows:

The bar will be open from 5 pm.
Prize-giving will commence around 6:15 pm (including certificates for Level 1 and 2 learn-to-sail).
Dinner will follow the prize giving at around 7pm.

The club is providing the meat (a BBQ roast) for the dinner and we ask people to contribute to the meal by providing one of the following:
Vegetable dish (and if it is in a crock pot it will help) or
Salad or
Dessert

Please remember that if a family is attending then bring a large dish. To help the evening run smoothly, please look to see where help is needed on the night (setting out tables, food, clearing up, washing dishes etc).

Although the bar will be open, you are welcome to bring along your own bottle of wine to have with the meal, as our bar doesn't have the storage for a large range of wine. It's always a great occasion so we hope all members and their families can make it.

NOTICE FOR LASER TROLLEY OWNERS

The Executive Committee has resolved that the access problem created by the laser beach trolleys will be solved on Boatshed Day. If you are the owner of one of the trolleys that get stacked up in the shed, be warned that these need to be clearly identified with sail numbers and they will be stored outside the boat shed from now on (locked up). One of the objectives of building the new storage shed was to create a clear gangway in the main boat shed so that boats can be taken out by sailors at any time without having to move tractors, boats and piles of trolleys out of the way first and put them all back after. The laser trolleys are currently a significant problem in this regard.

Boats For Sale

Many boats changed hands on Saturday but still a few left for sale here.

Any boats or gear for sale you want listed, or WANTED ads, send the details to the webmaster.

Boat Shed Day - 10 Sepember 2011 (posted 8 August 2011)

Boat Shed Day is an annual event held the weekend before the sailing season starts. This is your chance to get squared up on your club membership fees and secure your boat storage at the club for the season. You can open a pdf of the membership form with the fees on it by clicking here. Space is always tight in the sheds so make sure you let Boatmaster Lloyd Rance know ASAP if you are intending to keep your boat at the club this year.

Boat Shed Day is also your opportunity to help ensure the Club facities and equipment are ready to go for the new season. The WORKING BEE starts about 7:30 am for the really committed and usually we have everything tidied up shortly after mid-day. Please come along and help dig our new Rear Commodore - Andy Jones - out of the muck. He will have a long list of mainly small jobs and will be a friend forever to all volunteers. Every little bit helps.

See you there!

Fantastic Results at Opti Nationals (posted Friday, 13 May 2011)

The 2011 Optimist National Championships were held in Auckland over Easter - hosted by the Wakatere Club and sailed in the mouth of the Waitemata Harbour. MYC had seven sailors at the regatta. Auckland's weather tried everything from flat calm to heavy squalls and our sailors all distinguished themselves.

The Gautrey boys turned in a fantastic result, both attaining 2nd place in their age classes, with George making 8th overall and Henry 24th in an open fleet of over 200 boats. These performances earned them both places in New Zealand representative teams. George will go to the North American Championships in Los Angeles in July and Henry to the Asian Championship in Singapore, also in July. A great tribute to hard work in training, trojan parental support, and coaching support from both MYC club youth sailors and Sam Mackenzie. Sam and Tim Coltman were at the regatta in support, and Anita Trudgen marshalled the Wellington Green Fleet.

Our potential green fleeters - Elliot Kortright and Willem van der Wilt - gamely entered the open fleet at their first Nats and did well. Ned and Moss Grenfell and Finley Jones all did well in mid-fleet. Congratulations to the whole team!

SAILING SEASON CLOSED ON ANZAC DAY (posted Friday, 6 May 2011)

Immediate past Commodore Vicki Trudgen lowered the Club pennant following ANZAC Day racing, closing the 2010-11 regular sailing season at Muritai Yacht Club. The weather was light for the last race of the year. This race was counted for the Taipo Shield handicap trophy for two-handed boats as all the Sunnies were competing in the North Island chanps on Shield Day. Well done Reudi and Penny! The Muritai Saucer was also awarded on the results of this race (Paper Tiger - meow - handicap trophy). Congratulations Dave Bamford!!

Results from all Taipo Regatta races, and all the season Handicap Series now available on the results page.

The Junior Regatta Results are up on the results page and photos in the gallery.

This website is currently a work in progress. We hope it will provide useful information for both current and potential club members, and for other sailors interested in our activities.

The previous MYC web site is still available here.

Does the layout of the header or navigation bar on this page look "less than polished"? Some older web browsers format pages differently. We will be working to eliminate these problems by refining the page code. However, this behaviour is a sign that your browser is more or less past its use-by date. A note on browsers and where to get an update is available here.
